Our Story

The grandmother who made everyone feel like they belonged.

Dixie raised her family with a kitchen that always smelled like something good and a screen door that never stopped swinging. People came in tired and left a little lighter. That was her gift.

When Dixie lost her leg, the world she had to navigate suddenly looked different. Suddenly there were forms. Waitlists. Programs nobody told her about. Phone trees that made you feel small. She kept showing up anyway, for her grandsons especially.

The DD moment.

One afternoon, her two grandsons climbed into her lap and called her "DD." It stuck. That nickname is the seed of everything we do. Dixie's Door, DD, a warm front door to the help people have already earned but can't always find.

Our mission.

"No one should feel less than."

We translate the maze of grants, housing waitlists, transportation programs, and accessibility info into plain English, and we put it in one place, personalized to where you live and what you need.
